Software Engineer

Washington, DC - Full Time

General Duties:

This position has remote capability.


Develop enterprise-grade software applications that run on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform and leverage AWS services to conduct worldwide scientific mission operations.  Software encompasses both server-side processing and client-side (web) applications that operate within a virtualized Linux environment.  Work will be conducted by small development teams carrying out an Agile (Scrum) development process and will leverage modern DevOps practices. 

Required Experience:

  • 3+ years developing in Java
  • 2+ years developing REST web services
  • 2+ years developing database applications
  • 2+ years developing in a Linux environment
  • 1+ years using Git, Maven, Nexus and Jenkins

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with AWS Services such as EMR, Kinesis and DynamoDB
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as HBase, MongoDB, ElasticSearch
  • Experience with the Spring Framework and usage of Spring Boot templates
  • Experience with JavaScript and open-source frameworks (e.g. React, Angular, Vue)
  • Comfortable with light scripting in Bash and/or Python
  • Education/Experience Level:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering or related discipline
  • Certifications Required:  None, but AWS certifications are highly desirable
